Virginia Beach Rotary Clubs adopt park

VIRGINIA BEACH, Jan. 7, 2009 -- Four Rotary Clubs in Virginia Beach have agreed to adopt the Great Neck Park off Shorehaven Road.

"We'll have a four-club rotation so volunteers are working on the park each month," said Assistant District Governor Wayne McCoy, who coordinated the community service project.

The City of Virginia Beach approved the adoption in December and will post a sign in the park announcing the partnership.

The four clubs are Virginia Beach Rotary Club, Cape Henry Rotary Club, Princess Anne Rotary Club, and the Courthouse Rotary Club.

"I think multi-club projects are good for Rotarians as well as the community," McCoy said. "While each club has its own projects and initiatives, we are all Rotarians and do great things, together."

McCoy plans on hosting an all-club picnic this spring at the park.
