 Rick Scarper (C) won last year's Outstanding City Employee award. He was congratulated during a dinner in his honor by City Manager Jim Spore (R), Mayor Meyera Oberndorf (L), and Virginia Beach Rotary Club Past-President George Sabol.

Jim Spore (C) recently enjoyed dinner with Rotarians Mike Barrett (CEO, Runnymede Corp.) and Patricia Phillips (Virginia Beach Director of Finance). Mr. Spore provided the club a 2008 overview of Virginia Beach projects.

Author Eric Latham of Bristol, Va., gives a passionate and entertaining recount of his walk across America, from Nags Head to San Francisco. Eric's walk to promote healthy lifestyles with an emphasis on cancer care, research, and awareness, was chronicled in his book Walk About America. The 3,591-mile, 206-day walk raised more than $20,000 for the American Cancer Society.
